Youth Fund, Standard Group in collaboration to inspire youth entrepreneurship

The Youth Enterprise Development Fund and the Standard Group have today signed a collaboration framework agreement to inspire and promote youth entrepreneurship. The collaboration is in support of the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Kenya Vision 2030 and the Government of Kenya’s Big Four Agenda.
The collaboration is expected to increase participation of Kenyan youth in nation building through enterprise development, create of decent jobs and increase participation and uptake of Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO) by the youth.
The Youth Enterprise Development Fund has developed a mobile application platform, Y-App. YEDF and the Standard Group will engage young people on the application through the distribution of written, video and audio content. They will deliver impactful and effective material to the mobile application users through The Standard Group magazine pullouts-Hustle, Hashtag, Pulse and Smart Harvest.
Speaking during the signing of the collaboration framework at Standard Group headquarters, YEDF board chairman Ronald Osumba said the initial target is to reach five million youth. In addition Mr. Osumba said that the aim is to create a community of youth that shares stories and perspectives on economic empowerment on the mobile application. “This collaboration will provide youth with a digital platform to learn new skills and share ideas”, said Osumba. He added that through the collaboration the two organizations will provide entrepreneurship development training, business advisory content and networking opportunities for youth entrepreneurs.
YEDF chief executive officer Josiah Moriasi said that the collaboration will enable the fund to better achieve its mandate of providing financial support and business development services, noting that the Standard Group has an infrastructure whose reach is national.
Standard Group chief executive officer Orlando Lyom noted that young people are very many and are critical in achieving the nation’s goals. He said that through the collaboration his organization will promote the market reach of youth entrepreneurs by sharing their stories in Hustle, Hashtag, Pulse and Smart Harvest magazines.
