Youth Fund sponsors Miss DYMS 2011-2012

Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF) officially sponsored the ninth Annual Miss Dandora Youth Multi-purpose (DYMS) 2011-2012 event held on 27th August 2011 at the Dandora stadium. The event Dubbed “fanya hesabu” saw Ann Wangari being crowned Miss Dyms 2011-2012. First runners up was Teresia Njoki,18 years old  and second runners up was Juliet Achieng  17 years old, respectively.

Speaking during the crowning, Ms. Ann Wangari expressed her gratitude for being crowned Miss Dyms 2011 – 2012. “I can’t imagine that today, I made it, am so happy and excited”. She said. She was grateful to her friends who supported her throughout the competition. She equally thanked the organizers and sponsors of the event who went at all lengths to ensure that the event was a success. Ms. Ann Wangari aspires to become a surgeon. She loves dancing, travelling and socializing. 

Teresia Njoki also thanked the sponsors of the event and the organizers, adding that the event was fair. Juliet Achieng, who emerged the second runners up and whose ambition is to become a lawyer, also thanked the sponsors saying that the event was successful.

The event was organized by the Dandora Youth Multi-purpose Youth Group and provided a platform for females to showcase their abilities in the society, through modeling where female were usually trained for Annual Miss Dyms beauty pageants, and later involved in the competition.

Dandora Youth Multi-purpose is a community based organization that was established in year 2000, to address issues affecting the youths in regard to economic, social and political areas. It consists of seventy (70) members aged 14 -35 years, from all aspects of life. DYMS encourages and promotes self reliance among youths, by creating a platform for youths to exploit their talents fully and be empowered socially and economically through self sustained projects.

The initiative has worked with a team of more than 300 hundred girls for the past 6 years and hosted more than 5 events. Through partners most of the girls have had opportunities to get scholarships for college and high school.

DYMS has also for had an entry of 4 ladies from the Miss DYMS modeling to the prestigious Miss Kenya/ Miss World Beauty pageant, the initiative  has  partnered with Goal-Ireland,Inter-consumers products  limited and Nairobi Bottlers LTD(COKE)  and community based organizations like Dandora Arts centre and YEDF as well.

The event brought together other youths who also got a chance to showcase other talents which included singing informative songs which were used to pass messages of responsible behavior among the youth.
