The Youth Enterprise Development Fund has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Murang’a municipal council to provide income to 40 youth. The Fund will invest Kshs. 5 million in the project that will involve the rehabilitation of three sanitary blocks, and construction of a car wash site.
Murang’a Municipal Council becomes the second to partner with the Fund. Earlier this year the Fund entered into a similar arrangement with the Meru Municipal Council.
The 40 youth will run the toilets for the next 10 years after which they will be handed over to another group.
One of the key mandates of Youth Enterprise Development Fund is to attract and facilitate investment in micro, small and medium enterprises oriented commercial infrastructure that is beneficial to youth owned enterprises.
Speaking during the signing of the MOU, Youth Enterprise Development Fund CEO, Mr. Mwatata Juma Mwangala said that creation of employment for the youth will help curb crime, drug abuse, alcoholism among other social evils. He said Youth Fund will continue to create new products to cater for the different needs of the youth, adding that the Fund will set up 420 green houses countrywide in the next 3 months, 2 in each constituency and urged the youth to venture into agriculture and other business areas.

Appending signatures to the MOU
Murang’a mayor, Mr. Joseph Njoroge, said the municipality will support the youth and urged them to take advantage of the opportunities being provided by the government. The town clerk Mr. Sammy Njogu, said the council has set adequate and strategic parcels of land where YEDFB will give loans to the youth to facilitate construction of market stalls, business parks, industrial parks, bus parks, business incubators.
The beneficiaries, who had been invited to witness the signing, thanked the Fund for positively responding to their request.
Present during the event were YEDF directors Martin Keino and Susan Mang’eni. Others were councilors from the municipality, officials from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and staff of the Youth Fund. The DO Kahuro represented the local DC.
