Youth trained on entrepreneurship and AGPO

The Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF) in partnership with the County Government of Mombasa successfully trained 250 youth on entrepreneurship and how to Access Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO). Out of those trained a total of 68 were awarded with certificates of participation presented by Mombasa County Minister for Youth & Sports, Mohammed Abbas in a ceremony held on 19th July 2016 in Mombasa County.

The training was necessitated by feedback within the county that indicated that the procurement of goods and services by youth under Y-AGPO (Youth - Access to Government Procurement Opportunities) category was still far the government reserved procurement budget. Part of the reasons for the low participation include:

  1. Lack of information on business name registration process.
  2. Lack of basic enterprise documentations such as PIN & Tax Compliance Certificate
  3. Lack of information on how to finance the contracts (including LPO financing by YEDF which is up to kshs. 20 million)
  4. Lack of adequate skills and knowledge on entrepreneurship

The training therefore sought to equip youth with the necessary skills and knowledge on entrepreneurship and how to participate in government procurement.
